Educational Programs:
SCAC's education programs teach the proper care and treatment of animals to young and old alike. Community presentations, available to organizations throughout the areas we serve, offer information about Second Chance and the programs and services we offer. Through our on-site Shelter Tour Program. our popular summer camp, or in their school classrooms, children explore issues such as what pets need, how to keep them safe, and how kindness matters in all our relationships...to each other, to animals and to the earth.

SNAP
If you live in Bennington County or a New York town that borders Bennington County AND need financial assistance to spay/neuter your cat or dog, SNAP
is here to help you!
Call 375-2898 to leave a message for our SNAP coordinator. Include your name, phone number and a good time to reach you. She will call you back and fill out an application with you over the phone.
We use a sliding scale to determine how much you pay for a SNAP certificate.
After you send us a check or money order for that amount, the SNAP certificate will be mailed to you, along with a list of participating veterinarians. The certificate also covers the cost of a rabies shot if your pet needs one. You will be responsible for any other costs.

Seniors for Seniors
Many older cats that come to us have always lived with a family and for some reason have been surrendered to us. Thanks to our "Seniors for Seniors" program, an older person can adopt an older cat for only $20. The cat has to be at least 8 years of age or it can be a younger adult cat that has already been spayed or neutered when it is surrendered to SCAC. Just think, no need for litter box training, spaying or neutering. And the best part is,
you're helping an older cat stay in a loving home!

Animal Cruelty
In the past three years, Second Chance Animal Center Humane Investigators have responded to nearly 300 cases of suspected animal neglect or abuse in Bennington County. The SCAC Humane Investigators assess each complaint and then works with and educates the owner on the regulations for the humane care of animals in Vermont. If education is not possible, we then investigate in the best interests of the animals. To learn more about Vermont's animal cruelty statute, please visit the Vermont Animal Cruelty Task Force's web site at www.vactf.org.
